What is Brainchops?
Brainchops is a sporadic blog exploring the realm of braindance, IDM, chiptunes, acid, and other thoughtful electronic music with a focus on the independent and lesser known artists. There are heaps of talented composers out there making music in their bedrooms or on their commutes all over the world who don't get the recognition they deserve. We aim to change that. Though we will review and make mention of certain staple artists such as Aphex Twin, Plaid, The Black Dog, Autechre, Boards of Canada, Orbital, Ceephax, Squarepusher, The Orb, Future Sound of London, etc., this blog will focus on who we perceive to be lesser known artists that we recommend you give a listen to.
With hundreds of netlabels out there now and 100-times as many electronic music releases coming out every week, finding good new music can be overwhelming. You can count on Brainchops aiming for quality, not quantity, taking time to write thoughtful reviews based on hours and hours of listening and scouring the interwebs for what we consider to be some of the most inspired and interesting electronic music out there.
Brainchops also appreciates instant gratification when it comes to music. Most reviews on this blog are published on or after the music is released to the public, so if you hear something you like, you don't have to wait for it. We still welcome advanced copies from artists and labels because it gives us plenty of time to give everything a good thorough listen, and the ability to publish a review on the actual release date.
If you want a little more action than on the blog, follow @Brainchops on Twitter or "Like" us on Facebook where we post additional content, ponder life's vast mysteries and engage in conversation with like-minded individuals such as yourself.
Thanks for stopping by. :-)
